The Tampa you haven't found yet. Summer Solstice edition.
June 18th to June 24th, 2026 ยท The Bay, Simplified
Summer Solstice is this Saturday, Tampa. June 21st. The longest day of the year. Tampa gets 14 hours and 9 minutes of daylight and the Gulf is at its warmest point of the entire calendar. Most people will spend it at the same beaches and the same restaurants they always go to. This week we are going somewhere else. There is a restaurant on the Hillsborough River that brews its own beer and sits next to an actual natural spring that most Tampa residents have never seen. There is a 1926 movie palace on Franklin Street with a ceiling that projects stars and a Wurlitzer organ that plays before certain shows, and most of the people in this city have walked past it a hundred times without going in. There is a beach that requires a ferry to reach and is almost always empty compared to the Clearwater crowds fifteen minutes away. Tampa Bay Rowdies are playing and most of you forgot the city has a soccer team. This week is about the Tampa that does not make the usual list. Let's get into it.
This Week at a Glance
- 1.Summer Solstice, Saturday June 21, longest day of the year, sunset at 8:28 PM
- 2.Ulele restaurant on the Hillsborough River, Native American menu and river deck worth discovering
- 3.Tampa Theatre summer film series, 1926 movie palace on Franklin Street
- 4.Tampa Bay Rowdies at Al Lang Stadium, St. Pete, this week
๐ฅ **Ulele is the most original restaurant concept Tampa has and it is still not getting the level of attention it deserves**. Native American culinary traditions, in-house brewery, natural spring on the property, river deck. If you have been sleeping on it, this is the week to go.
๐ฌ **Tampa Theatre has been showing films in a 1926 atmospheric movie palace for almost a century** and most Tampa residents have never been inside. The summer programming is the best time to go. Cult classics, revival screenings, and a Wurlitzer organ before the show. One of the genuinely irreplaceable spaces in this city.
โฝ **The Tampa Bay Rowdies are a real professional soccer team with a real supporter culture** and a stadium that looks directly out at Tampa Bay. Most people in this city have never been to a match. This week is a good week to fix that.
