Juneteenth in Tampa. A food truck worth chasing and a restaurant everyone's about to discover.
June 17th to June 23rd, 2026 ยท The Bay, Simplified
Juneteenth is this Thursday, Tampa. June 19th is a federal holiday and the city is celebrating it right. Curtis Hixon is going to be packed, Hillsborough County has programming running all day, and this is genuinely one of the best Tampa events of the entire summer calendar if you have never actually shown up for it. Beyond the holiday, the food scene is what has my attention this week. Anchor and Brines is the coastal spot that deserves ten times the foot traffic it's getting right now. Wandee Asian Fusion keeps getting louder word of mouth for a reason. The Rally Checkers truck is running through Ybor and downtown and you need to track it down before the line catches up to the quality. We've also got a Love Island Watch Party at Armature Works that @stufftodointampabay put together, Tampa Blades doing their thing, and a pedestrian safety study that dropped this week and is not flattering for this city at all. Full breakdown below.
This Week at a Glance
- 1.Juneteenth Tampa Bay Celebration at Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park, Thursday June 19, all day
- 2.Love Island Watch Party at Armature Works, presented by @stufftodointampabay
- 3.Anchor and Brines open this week, Tampa's coastal dining pick right now
- 4.Wandee Asian Fusion open nightly, best Asian fusion table in the city
๐ฅ **Anchor and Brines is quietly becoming the coastal dining answer Tampa has been waiting for**. The food is focused, the concept is clear, and the execution is consistent in a way that makes it stand out from the dozen other waterfront adjacent spots that opened this year and landed flat. Go this week before the weekend wait makes it a whole thing.
๐ฝ๏ธ **Wandee Asian Fusion's word of mouth has been building since they opened and this week it feels like it's reaching a tipping point**. Three separate people mentioned it unprompted in the last two weeks. That is the real review. No marketing budget buys that.
๐ **The Rally Checkers truck is part of why Tampa's food truck scene feels different this year**. The overall quality level has gone up across the board and Rally Checkers is one of the reasons. Track the location, go hungry, go on a weeknight.
